Take a journey into the colourful world of animation and make your own stop motion movie!

Animatick Arts invites students to let their imagination run wild and to bring forth various characters and creatures that live in their dreams, to tell stories they have imagined. When they can bring their characters and stories to life and make their own cartoons and animations, only the sky is the limit!

How does it work?

Animatick Animation Workshop is a fantastic way to engage, empower, educate and inspire people of all ages and abilities and allow them to creatively express their ideas while learning many invaluable skills. We work closely with students demonstrating the different processes and supporting them to realize their own ideas.

  • Half day (3 hours max)

During 3-hour workshops, students

- are introduced the basics of stop motion animation,

- experiment with the chosen technique via small exercises,

- design and model their characters using colorful plasticine or craft papers,

- create a short animated film with a group.

  • Full day (6 hours max)

During full-day animation workshops, students

- are introduced the basics of stop motion animation and traditional techniques,

- develop a story (storyboard) based on the theme of the day,

- design and build movie backgrounds,

- create their own unique characters with modeling clay or craft papers,

- shoot still shots to animate their own film,

- add voice and sound effects,

- present the final cut in front of their peers.

Who is it for?

Diverse groups of young people and adults ranging from ages 7-70 are all welcome! If students are new to animation, no problem! We have everything they need at this workshop to get they go.

What are the key take aways from the workshop?

What do previous participants say?

"Brilliant! The workshops were very well organized. Kids had a great experience learning stop motion animation and producing their own short movies. My two children did not stop talking about how much fun they had and immediately started to design more animations after the workshops. Highly recommended!"

Hatice, General Coordinator, Assalam Foundation, Zanzibar

"I got the chance to take part in a stop motion animation workshop by Merve Cirisoglu in Chania Film Festival. Although it was my first approach to the medium, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. In the beginning, Merve kindly shared with us the history, theory and technics of stop motion animation and then helped us to put everything into practice while feeling like children playing with our new toy! Fantastic experience that I would recommend to children and adults alike!"

Niko, Volunteer, Chania Film Festival, Crete

"The workshop was a great success! Merve is very skilled in communicating with children. She made sure that everyone was involved in the creative process of making animations. The kids had an unforgettable experience."

Saba, Organizer & Designer, Tofuzi International Film Festival, Georgia

"I was fascinated by Merve’s success in engaging children from different age groups, interests and skills in the workshop. Everyone (including adults!) will find something to learn and enjoy."

Ayse, Teaching Assistant, Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom

"Merve's animation workshop in our Chania Film Festival was not just an introduction to the amazing and creative world of animation, but it was an unforgettable and amazing experience for all the participants - children and grown children."

Chrissa, Transport Office Manager, Chania Film Festival, Crete

"Stunning! It was such a great workshop with a very enthusiastic instructor, Merve. The children's passionate participation and interest in workshops was worth to be seen. I also enjoyed a lot and now have a much better understanding of making animations!"

Hande, PhD Student, Imperial College London, United Kingdom

"Merve and her kind way makes animation much more than a technique. She made it a way of connecting children to their inner essence. Her workshop with refugee children made that obvious. She gave them what they needed, a playful and educative morning full of colours and warm feelings. Her time with adults was very inspiring too. Working with creativity and in a spirit teamwork made animation an unforgettable experience for our film festival in Crete."

Vicky, Program Administrator, Chania Film Festival, Crete
